Check it:

TIM033 - The Resonars - Long Long Thoughts 4-Song EP
Is it possible that the energy and genius created by the entire membership of The Hollies, The Move and The Who could be embodied in one guy living in Arizona? You just might start to believe it after giving this 7-inch a spin. Matt Rendon is the one man hit machine behind the Resonars, writing & recording every instrument & singing every note all by his lonesome. This 4-song EP represents his first collection of new material in almost three years, after releases on Get Hip, Star Time & Burger Records, focusing his paisley-tinted vision with one ear in the past & his eyes on the future. These tracks hit the sweet-spot between the bittersweet harmonies you love about “Evolution” era Allan Clarke and Graham Nash with the triumphant guitar and off-the-chain drum fills of a “Who Sell Out”-era Pete Townshend and Keith Moon. You’ll be hooked from the first La’s of “Long Long Thoughts” till the last faded notes of “Stumbling On Stones.” HOO BOY, you’re going to need a new needle after you get through with this one - sorry ‘bout that. The first edition of 500 copies is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, comes pressed on randomly mixed vinyl & includes a download code!

TIM034 The Paperhead - Pictures of her Demise b/w She Is Above Me
Not quite all grown up yet, Nashville wunderkinds The Paperhead return with a single that shows that these boys are maturing musically by the hour. Not only have Ryan, Peter and Walker absolutely mastered their 8-track recording skills, with the A-Side, “Pictures Of Her Demise” they’ve honed in on a thrilling synthesis of their influences. From Pink Floyd to The (Dutch) Outsiders, or Q65 and The Golden Dawn, they’ve added a dash more dandy flair a’la Rainbow Ffolly or Jason Crest. “She Is Above Me” taps into some prime “moustache-era” Beatles, resting comfortably in a Strawberry Field while a lysergic carousel whirls around & drops tab after tab of ‘Blue Sunshine’ on your tongue. All hyperbole aside, the arrangements are more intricate and these lads are continuing to be at the head of the class when it comes to the idea that psychedelic music isn’t always about indulgence - there is a simplicity and beauty in the careful construction of a song. The first edition of 500 copies is pressed on randomly mixed vinyl, includes a download code, & comes housed in a glossy, U.K.-style picture sleeve!

TIM036 - Wrong Words - I Will Change Your Mind b/w How To Keep A Straight Face
One of our absolute favorite bands is back with a killer new single! This two-songer is the perfect follow-up to their TIM debut LP from last March. All the elements are here that made their full-length so great; the guitar work, thumping bass and drums, great lyrics, and the same one-two, eff-you pop-punch. “I Will Change Your Mind” has singer / guitarist Josh Miller hitting some new highs not only in guitar riff-ery but hitting those vocal high notes like he is some kind of power-pop Rob Halford ~ it’s a real rollercoaster of a tune, that takes the listener on a journey through the melodic vocabulary of folks like Roy Wood, Nick Lowe & Paul Collins without losing their own personal voice. The flip, ‘How To Keep A Straight Face’ kicks open the door & stomps in with a killer riff & some down and dirty wah-wah action, before smartly swaying into a great laid back northern California-cool melodic feel not-unlike Boz Scaggs jamming with the Barracudas. A terrific teaser for what’s on the horizon from this trio! The first edition of 500 copies is housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, comes pressed on randomly mixed vinyl & includes a download code!

A couple other things:

1. You may or may not know that since CoCoComa went on indefinite hiatus we've been keeping ourselves busy with a new recording project called The Marble Vanity (which includes Andrew "No Slouch" Anderson of Hipshakes & Emma "The Ringer" Hospelhorn of Hollows). We had a single released by the excellent Chicago label Slow Fizz last month! Please contact them if you're interested in copies: www.slowfizzrecords.com. We're super proud of it! Look for our debut LP to surface this May...

2. If you are going to be in Austin for SXSW this year be sure to be at the Trouble In Mind Showcase on Saturday afternoon March 17th at Trailer Space Records - 1401 Rosewood.

Take a look at this rad lineup!

12-12:30 : Hex Dispensers
12:45-1:15: Wheels On Fire
1:30-2:00 : The Mean Jeans
2:15-2:45 : The Wrong Words
3:00-3:30 : The Resonars
3:45-4:15 : Mikal Cronin
4:45-5:15 : Apache Dropout
5:30-6:00 : Night Beats

We're also co-sponsoring an event on THURSDAY the 15th with other like-minded Chicago labels like Captcha, Permanent & Rotted Tooth at BEERLAND - both NIGHT BEATS & The WRONG WORDS will be repping TiM:

3. LAST but not least - on APRIL 21st, our 2012 Record Store Day 4-way covers split 7-inch will be available! What started off as a fun idea in 2010, has turned into an annual release for us at TiM headquarters - our annual Record Store Day 4-way covers split! For the uninitiated, each year, we ask four TiM artists to pick a song they love (any song) & record a cover version which we subsequently compile onto these limited releases, & this year is a DOOZY!

Orange County heartthrob Mikal Cronin starts things off with a bang with his woozy, infectious cover of "I Enjoy Being A Boy", written by bubblegum songsmith Joey Levine for the soundtrack of Sixties kiddie show The Banana Splits. Not to be outdone, Bloomington, IN’s Apache Dropout crack open a can o' bees with their sinister version of Harry Nilsson’s "Cuddly Toy". Flip this bad-boy over & you’ll be greeted by the warm embrace of The Paperhead’s take on "Stacey Grove", a Tyrannosaurus Rex deep cut from their debut album. We say "adieu" with a heady translation of The Troggs tune "Come Now" (literally translated into French as "Tu es à moi") fuzzed out to the max by Perpignan, France's The Limiñanas! Each copy comes pressed on white vinyl, is housed in a beautiful METALLIC SEAFOAM edition of the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, & is hand-numbered & strictly limited to 1000 copies for maximum collectibility! Buy now or pay later!

This title WILL NOT be available for mailorder (no exceptions - please do not email) & will only be available via indie record retailers! If your local shop didn't order it last year, then DEMAND it this year! Interested wholesale accounts can contact our distro Carrot Top Distribution: adam@ctdltd.com to reserve copies!

Kapow!

Mikal Cronin S/T LP and Liminanas Tour Single Bundle Now On Sale!

Happy September everybody!
We've been looking forward to this day for quite a while. This fall batch may only be 2 records, but man, are they insanely great. You probably know the drill by now, for the next 24 hours (until 10am CST tomorrow) we are offering free domestic shipping and discounted international shipping. That being said, we have a limited number of Limiñanas singles (like 125 of them and they won't be going on the website) so first come first served. Round up 17.00 USA (30.00 International) and head over to Paypal. Our address is: troubleinmindrecs@gmail.com.

As usual, if you want to throw in a record that you may have missed you can do so with no added shipping. (FYI - we have exactly FIVE copies of The Paperhead "Focus In On... The Looking Glass" LPs left for sale - once it's gone, it's gone!). Without further ado, let's get to it!:

TIM031: MIKAL CRONIN S/T LP

Conceived and recorded as a sort of therapy to help cope with adjusting to life post-college, an insuing break-up and geographic isolation Mikal Cronin steps momentarily away from the rhythm section of Orange County surf-punk bashers The Moonhearts with his debut solo LP. Fans can take heart, this isn’t a “vanity project” or half-baked endeavor - Mikal’s solo debut is fully realized, cohesive and beautiful, with themes that are as personal as they are universal; questioning your future, accepting your past and living in the moment. Taking influences such as late sixties Del Shannon and The Everly Brothers and filtering them through his own mutant California fuzz, Mikal deftly explores his singer/songwriter side that at moments feels like a punk Harry Nilsson or Curt Boettcher that balances sweet melodies & chords with chunky, psychedelic guitar freak-outs. Don’t let the opening Beach Boys-ian harmonies of “Is It Alright?” fool you into thinking this record can be easily pinned down... with long-time friend & collaborator Ty Segall producing, Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Royal Baths) running the tape machine and guests like John Dwyer of The Oh-Sees, you can be positive you’re in for something special. Once those guitars kick in, and you hit that first transcendent chorus, you’ll be hooked and anxiously awaiting what comes next. The LP includes a download code & the first 500 copies are pressed on randomly mixed vinyl.

TIM032: LIMIÑANAS 2011 USA TOUR SINGLE
Trouble In Mind - er, we mean TIM Records is proud to present this limited vinyl single released for Perpignan, France’s Limiñanas’ 2011 Fall U.S. Tour. The A-side might be an ode/homage to yours truly called "(I've Got) Trouble In Mind", & could be this charming French combo’s catchiest tune yet! Pulsing with rhythm & some seductive lyrics (sung in French of course) that when translated seem to imply that these guys have some heavy things swirling around 'dans leur tête'! The B-side, "Je m'en vais" is the real head-turner here & marks an interesting twist in the band's sound - a frantic, almost Suicide-esque stomper with a driving beat & organ line that still sounds like The Limiñanas, but also sounds like nothing they've done before! This “tour edition” is a one-time pressing of 500 copies on black vinyl, & is brought to you by TIM Records (a division of Trouble In Mind Records, LLC).
Also be sure to check out the blog for detail of our T-Shirt design contest and see how you can get FREE TIM Records releases for all of 2012! ~ WHAAAAAAT?!?!

Praise for Wax Museums
Their idiot savant rock is wedged between Milo Aukerman's brilliant simplicity and The Spits savage brilliance. Their music celebrates all things simple, and 97% of the time, that turns out to be a good thing.
- Impose

The Wax Museums write fast, sloppy punk songs about any damned thing, chronicling summer's highs and lows with Ramones-esque bravado...the members of the Wax Museums are not anywhere near as stupid as they're pretending to be.
- Blurt

Full of bratty numbskull humor, Eye Times features an energetic band of fellas who run through the album’s 13 tracks as if they can’t wait to tackle the next song. That doesn’t mean attitude trumps form here, though, for Wax Museums’ impatient thrash ‘n bash rhythms hold together quite well, and they are supplemented by dramatic stops, the occasional heads-down mid-tempo groover, and some unexpected production touches

With a new Trouble In Mind single due out on Oct. 19th our favorite Italians are going to be on a 3 week trip to the states. Heres what you can expect from the single as well as the dates!

"Treviso, Italy's Vermillion Sands sling a couple of tunes stateside to Trouble In Mind! Countrified but not country, unhinged but not sloppy, Vermillion Sands conjure up a manic, peyote-feuled trek across a dusty, spaghetti-westernized landscape. The two tracks on this single kick up dust in the faces of Ray Davies & Holly Golightly as singer Anna Barattin sneers her way around the band's driving drums & fuzzed-out guitars, leaving the listener thirsting for more as the vultures circle overhead! The single comes housed in the Trouble In Mind factory sleeve, includes a download code, & the first press comes on randomly mixed colored vinyl!"
